CoMP-Py 2021

CoMP-Py is designed to train students and young researchers in advanced numerical techniques that are widely used in the domain of computational physics using Python. This course will be also beneficial to faculty members engaged in teaching numerical methods using Python to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Python is an open source language with an extremely readable syntax and therefore it is very easy to develop programs quickly for scientific and engineering research. It has found extensive applications in all the branches of physics as well as in data science and machine learning. This course will introduce these fascinating uses of Python and prepare students to take up future research projects that make heavy use of such computational and simulation techniques.

TOPICS TO BE COVERED



* Introduction to Python Programming:
Basics of programming in Python; Introduction to SciPy, NumPy, and Matplotlib.
* Numerical Methods with Python:
Finding roots of polynomial equations; Interpolation and curve fitting; Differentiation; Integration, Solving differential equations, Linear algebra
* Applications of Python in Computational Physics:
Solving boundary value problems, the Schrodinger equation and partial differential equations; Monte Carlo methods; Elementary machine learning techniques and its applications.

HIGHLIGHTS



* This course will have a total duration of two months (tentatively 36 hours worth of lecture and interactive sessions).
* This course will have live teaching sessions along with lengthy interactive tutorial sessions. Classes will be on Saturdays/Sundays only.
* The lecture and tutorial sessions will take place on weekends.
* Participants will be provided with practice problems every week.
* Participants will be able to develop the skills to write prototype programs using cutting-age tools.
* Participants will be ready to tackle a wide variety of computational challenges arising in scientific and engineering research.
* All participants will get a certificate on successfully completing the course.

PREREQUISITES



* Basic knowledge of linear algebra and calculus.
* Knowledge of classical and quantum mechanics would be useful.
* Prior exposure to computer programming is desirable.

* Research Scholars/Students of IIIT-Allahabad (host institute) must use their institute email address to register for the event if they wish to avail the GST exemption.


* No refund will be entertained under any circumstances once registration is confirmed.

Step 2:

Fill up the Registration Form and submit it. After filling up the registration form, participants will recieve a copy of their response.




Step 3:

The participant should then forward their response along with a copy of the payment receipt to comppy.iiita@gmail.com with the subject line "CoMP-Py 2021 Registration FULL NAME".

* Once the payment is verified from our end, you will receive a confirmation mail from comppy.iiita@gmail.com.


* Your registration will be complete only if you have successfully forwarded both registration form and payment receipt, and paid the correct registration fees.
